…it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. Matthew 19:24

Ever since I heard this bible quote as a child, I’ve always wondered about this one. Why should the rich have such a problem entering The Kingdom of God? Why, in other words, should they have such a problem achieving the highest levels of Consciousness? After much thought, consideration, and observation of the rich people in the news, and in our therapy practice, I feel there are two reasons for this. Reason one is indoctrination. Reason two is, as Gautama said, attachment.

As for indoctrination, and as you discover at the LP Intermediate level of study, there is a lot to that. Rich or poor, we all undergo some seriously sophisticated indoctrination designed to keep us from handling higher levels of Consciousness and realizing our true inner light. For our purpose here, it is enough to point to three aspects of the indoctrination process that the rich endure. These aspects form the core of the problem that Jesus Christ pointed out. These three aspects of indoctrination are what makes it so difficult to get through to a rich person.

For one, the rich are taught, actually we’ve all been taught, that having money is a sign of spiritual/genetic advancement. Being rich and successful is, we are told, the sine qua non of human potential. It is what we all aspire to and it is the measure upon which we are judged. Not everyone believes this message of course, but generally if you’re rich, you buy into it. The rich can get this message spiritually, as they do, for example, through the protestant self delusion that wealth is a sign of God’s grace, or they can get it scientifically, thinking that money and power are the pinnacle of evolutionary potential. However they get it, science or religion, doesn’t matter. The point is, they get the idea that being rich is a sign of being evolved/good.The video Money Moksha teaches that the rich are not evolved and advanced, but sick and addicted. Share widely!

For two, the rich are also socialized to disconnect from their Signal Emotions. They learn that emotions are a feminine/primitive weakness and that listening to emotions like guilt, shame, and even love, handicaps them and prevents their successful business, evolutionary, or spiritual progress.  You see this echoed every once in a while on a television or movie screen, and of course if you’ve ever been involved in Freemasonry or some other “old boys” club, you’ll have heard it directly from the horses mouth. The elites are taught to control and suppress their emotions, and they do. No human sentiment gets in the way of “business.” The net result is that an important avenue of communication that the Self uses to communicate with the self is cut off. When they engage in disjunctive and unaligned actions, like for example exploiting workers, even children, the signals they get from their submerged Self, signals that would normally tell them, through painful guilt and shame, that their actions are disjunctive are either ignored or not received.

Finally, in addition to drawing their sense of righteousness from the size of their bank account and being disconnected from signal emotions, the rich are given an intellectual justification that provides carte blanche for anything and everything they might decide to do. In a slightly more complicated version than the horrifically simplified checkerboard Star Wars mythology, they are told that black/white, good/evil, light/dark, and even God/Satan are all part of a “complicated” chessboard balance that necessarily drives the universe forward. Good and evil, light and dark, they are told, are all part of the same cosmic tapestry of progress. There are two sides and these sides struggle in eternal balance. It’s OK. It is God’s divine plan. It’s nature’s evolutionary dialectic! Pick a side. It doesn’t matter. It is all just a cosmic game. This ideology, this carte blanche justification, allows the rich, or anybody else who engages in disjunctive and sinful actions, to view their actions not as disjunctive problem, but as a part of the warp and woof of cosmic creation. In this context, even invading a nation and murdering civilians can be spun, with biblical levels of self-delusion, as a part of the cosmic dance. It’s sick, but true, nevertheless.

The net result of the above indoctrination is that the rich become convinced that what they are doing is right, no matter what! The indoctrination they endure ensures them against conversion and awakening. It is very difficult to tell a rich person that they are messed up. No matter what you might tell them, they believe their money is a sign of their advanced status. Whenever you try and tell them there’s something wrong, they’ll point to their financial success as evidence for their advanced/evolved state. What’s worse, even if they are engaged in horrific and disjunctive acts of violence, they won’t feel bad because they’ve suppressed/ignored their emotions and thus can’t perceive the “signals” from their deeply buried Self. And besides, whatever they do doesn’t matter because it’s all part of the cosmic chessboard of creation. For all the ideological reasons enumerated above, and for many more not mentioned here, it is very hard for a rich person to enter the Kingdom.

All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Acts 2: 45-6

When it comes to entering the Kingdom of High Consciousness, indoctrination is certainly a problem, for all of us. However, when it comes to being rich, indoctrination is not the only issue. The rich also have a problem with attachment. That is, the rich find themselves fatally attached to wealth and power. They only let it go after they are dead. And that’s a problem because great personal wealth is (if you believe me, Buddha, the bible, and some other sources) incompatible with full awakening and activation. That is, you can’t be uber wealthy and spiritually advanced. Christ understood this. He said if you want to enter “life,” you have to live an aligned existence and you have to give away all your wealth.

Mathew 19:16-22 If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.”

He is quite clear about it. If you want to enter the Kingdom you must

  1. keep the commands (i.e., live, in LP terminology, and aligned life) and
  2. sell everything and give it all to the poor.

Ah. Poor little rich man–sad because he has to give away his great wealth. Nevertheless, as the quotes above indicate, it does seem to be a thing. Being rich and wealthy is incompatible with entering The Kingdom.1 And I should note, saying you will give your wealth away by issuing some toothless “giving pledge” doesn’t cut it. Even if you do that, it doesn’t fix global disjuncture and so it doesn’t contribute to your alignment. If you are tired of self delusion and serious about “entering the Kingdom” what you really have to do is begin the process of giving it all away. What’s more, you have to change The System. None of us can move forward while The System is still in place. The world as it currently exists is anti-Christ Consciousness, anti-Christ, or just anticonsciousness. The foundations of system change are outlined in the Rocket Scientists’ Guide to Money and the Economy, but even that’s just the start. Capitalism, Socialism, Communism, and all the other “isms” are incompatible. Ultimately what we are looking at is a fundamental, deep rooted evolution in the personal, political, social, economic, and spiritual rubric of this planet.  As I am fond of saying, if you want to move forward, it is not business as usual.

Now if this freaks you out a bit, calm down. What I’m saying here doesn’t apply to 99.9999 percent of the planet. Personally, given the technological prowess of humanity and the incredible wealth that is floating around this planet, so long as we find a way to contribute to the greater good (and we must include ourselves in the great good), we should all have comfortable, successful, and stress free lives. In other words, it’s OK to own houses, cars, businesses, and other material things.  It’s even OK to have investments and to have saved a lot of money. Given reasonable material standards, there is way more than enough to go around for everybody. What’s not OK is greed in the face of global poverty or hierarchy and domination for the sake of venal advancement. What’s not OK is individual aggrandizement at the cost of collective and planetary well being. What’s not OK is unfettered accumulation of the type that is worshiped in advanced Capitalist/Socialist nations. Those things are incompatible with humanity’s survival, much less entering The Kingdom of High Consciousness. Now more than ever this is true. As the Trump/Republican administration has clearly demonstrated, greed is destroying the planet.

I am not going to go into all the horrible details here about why wealth is incompatible with spiritual advancement. I discuss some of the issues in Rocket Scientists’ Guide to Money and the Economy and besides, once you start making your own Connections to higher Consciousness, you’ll know the reason why (hint, it is because higher Consciousness is love/compassionate/concern/power/care, and greed subverts all that is loving/compassionate/Consciousness). I will say this though, it doesn’t take a rich person to know that a rich person would never give up their power, wealth, and prestige for something as misunderstood and ephemeral as a higher state of Consciousness. Their attachment to wealth and all the things that wealth brings you (i.e. power, drugs, sex, bling, and other cool things) is total. They normally won’t let go until they are dead (which is the reason behind their toothless “giving” pledge). Sad but, and I’m fairly certain there will be no arguments on this point, true. It is why, when talking about rich people, Christ juxtaposed a camel and needle. When you take into account indoctrination and attachment, it is “easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God.”

It is not hopeless. The article Dangerous Memories showcases a case study of how a single mystical experience can transform even the richest and most powerful. I admit, when it comes to saving the rich, Christ was a little pessimistic. He basically said it was impossible. Me, I’m a little more optimistic. My article Dangerous Memories showcases a case of elite transformation and I personally have seen some fairly significant transformations, at least in “lower level” elites. I think, and I even say so in the Song of Creation, that given the right conditions the rich can wake up, activate, and ascend just like everyone else. The billion dollar question at this point is, what does it take to shake one awake? I have to say, creating conditions conducive to waking up the elites is difficult and complicated, but it comes down to [av-access-trim]

  1. Availability of high quality, no compromise information (e.g. teachings of the LP).
  2. Realization on the part of the elites of the need to wake up
  3. Motivation to change and
  4. General planetary forgiveness.

First of all, if we want to wake up the elite, we need good teachings. There is no time to waste on the ideology of organized religion, the BS of Gnosticism, or the elegant, but ultimately unnecessary, accoutrements of  complicated yoga systems (to name a few). We need to be as clear and precise about human spirituality, high Consciousness, and the way forward as we can be. We cannot brook confusion, misdirection, and impotent spiritual teachings. We need lightning fast personal and global transformation.

Second, we need to make them (the rich) wake up to the fact that things (the world, themselves) need to change. Realizing the need for change is a tough one for elites especially because, as noted above, elites are indoctrinated into believing money and success are evidence of their spiritual/evolutionary status. Still, it is possible to get through to them. Even reading a few simple words like this can be enough to trigger elite awakening and get them thinking about the need to change. If not, the very real threat of economic, political, social, psychological, and ecological catastrophe (i.e. total ecosystem collapse) should be enough to wake them up enough to realize that things (the world, themselves) need to change. I’m certain that even as I write these words many elites from many different “kingdoms” are looking on in horror as our entire planet circles the proverbial drain. If we are going to prevent ourselves and this world from going down the proverbial drain we’re going to have to realize, we all need to change.

Speaking of the need to change, in addition to waking up and realizing that we need to change, I have to say, the elites also have to be motivated to change. This can’t be business as usual. You can’t realize the problem and then continue on in blissful non action. Unfortunately, like realization of the need to change, motivation to change can be difficult because, as noted, the elites are strongly attached to wealth and power and with that they can have everything, except perhaps the longevity that comes when one enters the Kingdom. Many of those who realize will not move on to transform because they will not be able to detach from their power and privilege. Why give that up for something as ephemeral as higher Consciousness? Still, as hard as it is to realize and transform, more and more elites will do it. Recently prince Harry came out as an individual struggling with mental illness. While this is a long long way from disavowing the monarchy and the privilege that goes with it, it is a tiny baby step in that direction as it acknowledges, in a very fundamental way, that the prince is just the same (i.e. damaged by trauma and toxicity) as everybody else. It is remarkable and revolutionary because of who he is. And there is more to come, not only because growing awareness of the threat of ecosystem collapse will drive realization of the need for change, but a collective, and as yet still “gentle,” end times expansion of Consciousness into the vessel of this Earth will ensure more and more of the high and the low will open their eyes, realize, and change. It is as inevitable as it is prophetic.  As is written:

In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.” Acts 1: 17.

Finally, and this is the important one, we (and by “we” I mean everybody) have to put aside revenge and accomplish general planetary forgiveness.  This is important. It is not only self delusion, not only indoctrination, and not only attachment that keeps the elites hanging on. Fear of revenge (often euphemised as “justice”) also keeps them clinging to the only thing they feel will protect them from the angry mobs, money and power. And can you blame them? Over the centuries they have done some awful things. They have exploited child labor, stolen people’s wealth, started wars, and even engaged in acts of mass murder. They have been very bad and as the truth comes out, the world will see. It is going to be much harder to convince uber rich to let go if they feel that letting go will lead to revenge. Not that they shouldn’t be held accountable. Throughout LP corpus there is an emphasis on accountability and atonement. Fix what is broken and make amends for sure, but not from a jail cell. Our current justice system is all about revenge and nothing more. We need to “clear the books” so to speak, and not just for the elites. Any individual on the road to awakening, activation, and ascension, any individual healthy enough to want to leave behind their violent and exploitative ways, gets an automatic pass. As noted, this doesn’t mean people aren’t held accountable, and it doesn’t mean we allow things to go on “business as usual,” and it doesn’t mean we have to love the people that hurt us. (Though honestly, if your heart chakra is functioning properly, you will find more compassion). However, it does mean we forgive and move forward.  If we don’t, any realization that one might attain, and any motivation that one might have to move forward, will be submerged beneath an overpowering fear of revenge. I mean, if you abuse your children every time they are “bad,” you teach them to keep silent and deny! Rich or poor, if we want people to let go, if we want them to move forward, if we want them to realize, if we want them to change, we need to forgive. There’s no other way forward. If you hang onto hatred and anger and if you seek out violence and revenge, you condemn yourself, and the entire planet, to doom.
